NYFW: Backstage Cynthia Rowley + Birchbox
Feast Your Eyes On Cynthia Rowley SS 15
A Behind The Scenes Look With Birchbox & Yours Truly
Pinch me! It was another “aha moment” as I was treated to a backstage visit with the gals of Birchbox before the Cynthia Rowley show. Accompanied by my trusty camera, I positioned myself in a tiny corner, and snapped a few pics to share. The backstage space was pretty tight, but it provided for some quality and intimate moments with models, hair dressers and make up artists.
Backstage Details: Hair was styled by the fabulous John Barrett of the John Barrett Salon. If you take a close look, yes those are Flash Tattoos in the model’s hair (resembling hair clips and accessories). Make up was done by Daniel Martin and Birchbox using Color Club polish and the new CR Game Face eye shadow palette coming to Birchbox this fall. Can I just say that I’ll be getting that eye shadow palette… it was gorgeous and playful. I was also dying over the model manicure station with Color Club. The girls looked so relaxed and the polish options were spot on. Lastly I will never forget bonding over the candy station with Cynthia herself. She loved the sugary-sour straws! Cheers to whoever decided on that candy bar; it was the perfect touch to the backstage chaos.
About The Show: The main show space (at the Swiss Institute) was set up for models to each stand firmly on pedestals in front of a stunning mural. The entire concept was clean and basic (all white). The focus was 100% on the prints of the clothing and the eye-catching painting. More about the clothes; I was surprised to see that Cynthia decided to split up her active wear from her ready-to-wear pieces. Now that’s not to say her ready-to-wear wasn’t athletic focused, but the two aesthetics were completely separate this year contrary to seasons past. As you’ll also see below, this season was all about print for Cynthia. Be sure to check out the blown-up 60’s floral print. It’s pretty amazing!

Makeup Monday
Several of you have been asking about the beauty and makeup products I use for blog pics, so I figured why not share my daily makeup must-haves with you all. I must be honest and say that my beauty routine doesn’t change up a whole lot.
For the most part, I’ve been buying the same products for years, and my makeup routine takes about 10-15 mins. every day. I hate to admit that I even mastered putting on my make up at each stoplight from home to work back in Lex. Not safe, and definitely not doable for NYC morning commutes.
My makeup advice is to keep it simple, and know exactly what products you like. For instance, I could NOT live without my MAC eyeliner that I discovered in college or my eye cream (eye paint). It’s important to know exactly what compliments your features, and how to apply the appropriate makeup. That’s why I say, know what you like!
What’s In My Makeup Bag…
(Click each title to review the product!)
MAC Fluidline Eyeliner (Color – Blacktrack) – This is seriously the BEST eyeliner… it lasts all day, and is super affordable. You need a small, angular brush (available at MAC) to apply.
Sephora Sun Disk Bronzer – This is an affordable and good quality bronzer. The Sun Disk creates a smooth and natural-looking sun-kissed glow on the face and body.
MAC Eye Paint (Color – Bare Study) – This is my every day eye shadow. The small paint pot contains highly pigmented eye color that applies creamy but dries at an intense rate and remains on the lid all day. It is smooth and seamless as a base coat or an only coat.
Eyelash Curler – You can find these nearly anywhere. Mine is from MAC and I am obsessed with the finished look of my lashes after each use. Curled, bold lashes are gorgeous once achieved. I think a curler is an essential beauty purchase.
CoverGirl Clump Crusher – This lash blast mascara is a fabulous breakthrough in no-clump mascara. I love it because you can apply it several times throughout the day without looking to clumpy. This mascara features an innovative double-sided brush with lash-loading and clump-combing zones to crush clumps.
MAC Blush – This blush is the perfect weight and shade for me. I can wear it in the summer or in the winter and it changes with my complexion. I recommend any of the MAC blushes, as long as it compliments your skin tone.
CoverGirl 3-n-1 Foundation – This all-in-one foundation is a great beauty find and budget friendly. These products aren’t harsh on skin either. I love this long-lasting formula that combines everything you need: primer, concealer, and foundation in one easy step! The 3-in-1 formula provides a flawless look that easily lasts from day to night.
Clinique Brow Corrector – We’ve all been there… that day we decided to pluck one too many times. I feel like I am constantly fixing my brows to make them thicker and bolder, since that is the trend. A bold brow is lust-worthy right now. And I have found the perfect fix. This Clinique corrector is simple to apply and is made to match your eyebrow shade.
Bare Minerals Powder – It’s invisible magic! I fell in complete and total love with this powder at the last fashion blogger’s conference I attended in NYC. The makeup artists were raving over it and I had to give it a try. It is the best skin correcting powder I have ever used, and it isn’t heavy. I like natural powders, and this gets the job done!
