There is no such thing as too much black and white as far as I am concerned. The basic combo has never really left the style radar, but it’s definitely changed and transformed over time. Today we’re looking ahead at what the two colors can do for us next season. I’m thinking checkerboards and a lot of patterns?!? And although we’ve definitely got winter and freezing temps on the brain (I hear it’s freezing in Lex, too), fear not because spring trends are inching closer and I’m leaning on black and white to get us through.
Today I’ve got a trio of B&W looks to try or at least think about trying. From nails to cropped pants for work, there is definitely something out there in the black-and-white world for all of us. Give it a go and make sure you share your pics and thoughts with @LexWhatWear on Twitter & Facebook!

1. Black & White Paint Job
Get artsy! Take the trend to your nails and see how you can incorporate the two colors into your monthly mani/pedi. I’m digging the all-white nail and black tips look. Reminder for the working gals: keep your nails classy, never trashy!
2. Black & White Between The Lines
Designers such as Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta are urging us to take a walk on the wild side with our black-and-white ensembles. Say hello to stripes, dots, and abstract prints all in black and white. Don’t shy away from the playful prints. Embrace the look for your accessories and your wardrobe essentials.
3. Black & White Simply Stated
Colorblocking was a huge trend this past year. Now I’m just encouraging it with black and white. This is an easy style to approach if you aren’t afraid of the color contrast. I’m particularly fond of black on top and white on bottom, but it’s totally your call here! For instance, look how each of these women incorporated the colors into their everyday wear.
A few other options I’m loving in stores now: SKIRT, DP BAG, URBAN BLOUSE, MINKPINK JACKET, TARGET LOAFERS, TOLANI SCARF.
