I can’t believe I am saying this, but winter is on the fast track and that means prepping for cool temps and Kentucky’s unpredictable weather. My closet has made the switch from mild temp blouses to chilly seasonal sweaters. Question is…am I really ready for winter weather? Well, the answer to that is, like always, NO! Cold weather and I are not a good combo. However, I do love this season’s trends.
Earlier in October, I talked a lot of fall runway ensembles that could transition to real-life wearability. Today is about the ever-so-chic trend of patent leather and how this haute winter look is taking charge in the fashion world! During NYFW Fall/Winter 2012 shows, we saw big-time designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Diane von Furstenberg, and Derek Lam showcase patent leather in very unexpected ways. “From blazers and skirts to pants and sweaters, the lacquered leather look is definitely no longer reserved for shoes, and with the arrival of Fall/Winter goodies in stores this trend is finally shoppable.” – Shefinds.com
Your best patent leather investment is probably a leather jacket or boots. You can also choose from a wide array of small accessories like clutches, cuffs, watches, and small totes. One extra reason to go for patent leather is its water-resistant nature, which can come in quite handy during winter’s rain and snow. Not convinced? One of my style icons is on the patent train, too. Check out Nina Garcia’s patent leather Pinterest board dedicated solely to designer statement leather. Once you see that Versace dress she pins, oh my, you will be hooked!
