Distressed Denim Shorts

We all know “jorts” can be a tricky style game to play, but if you follow your own rules you should definitely come out on top. Always know what length you need. If you have long legs like me, make sure you find a pair that fits. You should always do the “rear test” too. If you can even see a glimpse of a booty… TOO SHORT! I say you go as distressed or as basic as your feel. But distressed should always, always have a layer underneath the distressing. If your shorts are barely there, rethink your purchase.

Speaking of distressed, ripped denim shorts can be even trickier. This pair here = definitely NOT work appropriate, but totally wearable on those hot summer weekends. They are pretty distressed (for me) but I like the look it gives on some occasions. I’ve been a shorts girl my whole life, so I have several trusty pairs of regular jean shorts that I wear majority of the time.

When I think of distressed denim shorts I think of casual daytime outings. I envision flat sandals, a cute cross body bag, sunglasses and beer. Not sure why I think of beer, but I’ll keep going with it. I also imagine distressed denim shorts with a variety of top options: think basic button up shirt tied at the waist, or an off the shoulder blouse tucked in the front and partying in the back. It’s  only risky if you attempt to wear this style to the wrong event.

Long story short, styling is everything. Definitely own a pair of distressed denim shorts, because it’s fun. Be careful when trying on and purchasing your new shorts, but feel young and joyful wearing them. Enjoy brunch with your girlfriends or a day date with your handsome guy, and treat your shorts to a summer of adventures. Oh, and be sure they FIT!

XO, Alex
