Inspiration Post: I Really Love My…

•FEDORA•

The fedora is making another huge comeback for the winter of 2012!

It’s true – the fedora just happens to be the biggest hat trend for this fall/winter. But this stylish headwear is not “new.” Not by any stretch. The fedora has been around since at least 1891, originally a felt hat worn by men. This iconic headpiece is often associated with the era of  Prohibition, but many of us probably know it best as one of pop superstar Michael Jackson’s must-have accessories. Jackson’s public appearance attire always included glitz – and glam and usually one of his many fedoras.

Fortunately, women also wear fedoras these days. Not only are they stylish, but they provide a classy-chic look and are gorgeous on any face shape. You can turn a boring day outfit into an “oh that’s fabulous” ensemble with a fedora. Traveling is a great reason to sport your fedora. My basic tan fedora with a black ribbon bow (shown below) is simple, tasteful, and travel friendly. I chose this simple version for a recent family trip to Napa Valley. I keep it handy for any chance to wear it, as well as for an occasional bad hair day. Yes, we all have bad hair days!

I am truly fascinated by the fedora, its history, and the many styles, shapes, and textures. Hopefully, you, too, will not be afraid to throw your hair back into a pony and “cap” off your look with a casual fedora – like I did here on that Napa adventure with brother Brad, sister-in-law Kate, and mom Terri.
