A few weeks ago, Evan and I had the pleasure of attending our first Murder Mystery dinner party. If you didn’t already know, Evan is a huge murder mystery nerd. He loves everything from Dateline to the terrifying shows on Investigation Discovery. When the opportunity arose, I knew I had to accept, solely for making Evan happy. Little did I know, I would have a blast too.
So let’s get down to the details, because I myself had no idea what a murder mystery dinner party entailed. The Murder Mystery Co. invited us out to The Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown Nashville, and we eagerly printed our tickets, and prepared ourselves for a fun, Friday night date-night. Our murder mystery theme was: Til Death Do Us Part. Once at the venue, we were greeted by a few of the evening’s main characters, and we were given the VIP treatment. Next stop was the photo booth, which was a lot of fun. We were then partnered with another couple to form a team for solving the night’s murder.
Dinner is served by course, and the mystery show begins. They involve everyone in the audience in one way or another. Lucky for me, Evan was selected as one of the main characters. Side note: I couldn’t stop laughing, because of all people, he was now heavily involved in the plot of this murder show. He was given props and instructions for carrying out his portion of the show. As a team, we then had to interact with all of the other teams to begin to crack the case.
With fake money, we bargained our way for tips on certain characters and intensely watched the show play out. Knowing me, I was making a mental note of every single detail, so we could solve the case and be crowned the CHAMPIONS of the evening. After finishing our meals and majority of the show, it was time to solve the crime. My details came in to play when describing the who, what, when, where, why and how of the case. At that point we knew, we were faced with the truth…
We were sitting among the murder culprit. Evan’s character was the criminal. I have to say it was because of my detailed response that we went home victorious and the WINNERS of the evening. We were the ultimate detectives.
All in all, it was such a fun experience, and gave us something new and exciting to try out for a date night. You can easily make a murder mystery dinner party a large group event, or keep it small like we did. The Murder Mystery Co. put on a fantastic show, and we will definitely be signing up for our next mystery soon. Don’t be afraid to try something new, you never know how much you may enjoy it.
