Friday 5: Top 5 NYFW!

1. Milly

Designer Michelle Smith was inspired by a traditional sense of femininity, meaning a true representation of the hourglass figure. Her spring 2014 runway pieces were hip, full of texture, and vibrant prints influenced by trips to Japan and Hawaii. Michelle played her cards right, and buyers will soon be calling for many if not all of her garments.

2. Marc by Marc Jacobs

Marc always surprises with a different element of style each season. This season it was an emphasis on shine: satin, sequin stars, and metallics worn with everything. Models hit the runway in strict neck ties, simply silhouettes, and suits and shoes of similar taste for both boys and girl. Jacobs presented an early 1980’s vibe with a noticeable edgy approach to fashion fiction.

3. Oscar de la Renta

Oscar presented classic day clothes meets evening drama with oversized houndstooth, structured pencil skirts, narrow column dresses, and delicate embroidery. He had a little something for all: a touch of innocence and a period of rebellious chic. The dresses were simply divine. No joke!

4. Rachel Zoe

Amongst many other designers, Rachel Zoe was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent and influenced by the women around her. Zoe asked herself, “what are the girls in my life wearing?” Reviews are debating whether Zoe is in this for the long haul or not, but I happen to be a huge fan and constant supporter of her designs and styles. I especially love her safari influence and minimal hints of prints that came down the runway.

5. Nanette Lepore

After visiting a Nanette Lepore sample sale last season I was sold on the fabulous designs, quirky prints, and playful colors. For spring 2014, the Nanette Lepore collection embraces all three: color, prints, and tasteful designs. I particularly like the pops of red used throughout the show, whether it be a red lip, a red flower, a red blouse or bag. Well done Nanette Lepore!
