“Flower Power” was a slogan of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Has it made a comeback?
Harper’s Bazaar says flower power is still on the trend report in 2012, “Don’t discard your floral fantasies just yet, this season the trend continues with a high-octane dose of flower power.” Read more: New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Trend Report – Runway Spring Fashion Trends 2012 – Harper’s BAZAAR
A few weeks ago I talked about the importance of prints this season. As we transition into fall and winter months, prints will continue to hold their own throughout the remainder of 2012. As a kid who loved trend watching, I always wanted to wear fun, flirty, and pretty prints such as florals. As an adult, floral prints still give me that sense of prettiness, and a relaxed, yet classy and confident feel.
Vogue says of the 2012 trend, “florals are a delightfully mixed bunch.” The floral print I am wearing below follows the flower power trend lightly, as it is paired with a solid, accent-colored short. The print is romantic, yet young and fun. The mixture of the two create the look I was going for. I still like to have moments of casual dress that represent my youth!
This trend never actually went out of style, but in recent times it is making its own statement. My key message about floral trends is this: Take a catwalk trend like floral prints, and create your own looks. Keep in mind, prints can transcend romantic, edgy, subtle, or energetic vibes. You make it what you want. This early 2012 trend like many others can carry over to fall when paired with dark denim, neutral boots, and a light jacket. Keep an open mind when it comes to prints.
