Just as you need the right ingredients to make a recipe work, you need the right “basics” to make your wardrobe work. Basic fashion pieces are key to building a wardrobe that fits your style.
A few basics in my closet include black-and-white tees for layering, solid-colored tanks, an LBD (little black dress), of course, a pair of black skinnies (which go with anything), a simple ballet flat, and a variety of denim pieces.
Another piece I consider a basic is something I wear almost daily: my Moon and Lola monogram necklace. I chose the acrylic block monogram in the tortoise color because I wear so many basic colors. It’s simple enough for everyday activities and classy enough to dress up most of my nicer outfits.
Remember: The simpler the better when it comes to the basics of your wardrobe. Choose simple pieces that can be accented or paired with other pieces to create a stylish look. Versatility is your new best friend.
You can see my basics at work. My denim top – accented with my monogram necklace – could also be used for layering or paired with a detailed scarf for fall. I’ve paired it with my favorite pair of black skinnies. (FYI: Gap jeans fit a girl with curves, and a girl without curves). Lastly, my ballet flats complete the look. (And they were also incredibly inexpensive. Bargain shopper right here!)
