This year, stealing the top spot on winter’s best accessories list is FUR! In fashion terms, fur has made a successful “comeback” from the ’70s with tasteful shagginess, bold color combinations, and wild prints and textures.
For winter 2012-2013, designers have widely accepted the fur movement and have integrated fur into their runway collections. The fur trend has transitioned from complete looks to fur details and accessories.
Long, short, faux, or real, fur is trimming collars, cuffs, necklines, bags, and shoes everywhere. In the past, fur was often designed to be a neutral basic. This year, we are seeing the arrival of dyed fur in unexpected bold hues like blues, greens, reds, and purples.
The trend is on the fashion fast track — all facets of fashion are becoming fur-licious. Winter accessories such as hats, gloves, and scarves are on the bandwagon, too. Yes, groups like PETA have made their stance against fur fashion, and about a third of designers prefer faux fur for their collections. There is still a demand for genuine fur because many high-end customers like the look and feel. I say individual preference on this one!
Below are a few of my favorite fur looks for the season. I have personally embraced the trend, and even rocked out a fur vest this past weekend. That’s not the last of that either… I accidentally splurged on a few other little fur accessories for my winter collection. What can I say… retail therapy any one?
