I’m beyond excited to announce that Dress For Success Lexington is back again with “Recycle the Runway.” This year’s 13 local designers are up for the unconventional fashion challenge, turning “unsuitable” garments into wearable styles. “Recycle the Runway” not only celebrates true local talent, but it promotes the mission of Dress for Success Lexington. I’m more than happy to share the official press release (below) with all LWW readers. And for goodness sakes, be sure you’re there at The Grand Reserve on October 7.

13 designers will showcase their ‘wearable art’ at Dress for Success Lexington’s Recycle the Runway Oct. 7

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thirteen of the Lexington area’s most creative fashion designers will vie for top honors this year when Recycle the Runway returns Oct. 7 at The Grand Reserve.

Included in the lineup are the three winners of last year’s Recycle the Runway, a unique fashion show, silent auction and luncheon that showcases runway-ready garments made out of clothing otherwise deemed “unsuitable.”

“We are so excited to have these thirteen designers lending their creativity to a great cause.  Not only will we be celebrating the successes we’ve had in our first year, but also the incredible talent we have right here in Lexington” said Analisa Wagoner, Dress for Success Lexington Executive Director.

All 13 designers have picked up their bags of unsuitable garments and are already “working their magic” to create winning designs, said Amy Wickliffe, Dress for Success Lexington Vice-Chair.

“We are also grateful to our corporate sponsors who make this event possible.  Because of the generosity of individuals and businesses in Lexington, Dress for Success Lexington will continue to grow and serve more women over the next year” said Wickliffe.

Sponsors this year include:  Bella Rose, Britton Osborne Johnson PLLC, Renee Craddock, Humana CareSource, KEMI, KyForward.com, McCarthy Strategic Solutions, MOUR Magazine, Paperdolls Boutique, Real Life Radio, and Sizemore and Sizemore CPA.

Tickets for Recycle the Runway are $100 and can be purchased online at www.dressforsuccess.org/lexington. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the organization to supports its mission to empower women to be financially independent.

Sponsorships are also still available. For more information contact Amy Wickliffe at fundraising@dfslexington.org.  Additional photos available upon request.

Recycle the Runway kicks off at 11:30 a.m. at The Grand Reserve with a luncheon, a silent auction and “grab bag” opportunities. Then the local designers and their models will command center stage. Winning designers will be awarded cash prizes, and the first-place winner will be featured in MOUR Magazine.

Dress for Success, a nonprofit organization founded in 1997, has long been recognized as a source of professional attire for low-income women preparing for job interviews. The Lexington affiliate opened its doors in October last year. Just weeks after opening its doors, the first Recycle the Runway was held, setting the stage to become the organization’s signature event.

In addition to providing clothing, the Dress for Success addresses every phase of a woman’s career — providing support and resources through the job search, at the time of employment, and continuing with services and support to ensure that women keep their jobs and have the tools and encouragement to pursue self-defined success. Career development and employment retention programs and services are the cornerstone of Dress for Success, and of every woman’s experience within its doors.

The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
