EARRINGS | DRESS | CLUTCH (old) similar | SANDALS
No joke, my favorite kind of dress is a maxi dress. They tend to always fit well, and I can typically find multiple ways to style them for the office or for the weekend. I was actually just talking to one of my best friends yesterday about buying dresses for summer (shout out to KPC), and we both went on and on about the success we’ve had finding the right maxi dresses.
A couple of years ago, the only time you would ever see me in a dress is if I was a bridesmaid in a wedding. With my body shape (big chest, no hips) I have never been able to find a dress that fits in the right places. There’s a much bigger issue here, that we ALL have worries and stress over our bodies no matter how big or small we appear to the human eye. I’d rather save this talk for another time, but everyone tends to struggle with body image at some point or in some way in their lives. Mine just so happens to be with dresses, and a few other things (bathing suits, saggy butt jeans, blah, blah).
The maxi dress helps elongate my body, and the styles that I lean towards have a cinched waist. This is super crucial for me because of the no hip thing. If the dress is a shift dress, I tend to look potato sack-ish. You ladies know what I mean.
This dress I am styling today is an absolute favorite. I was a bit afraid of its open back (hence it’s not photographed) but I quickly got over it because it makes me feel like a flower child ready for an incredible summer day. In other words, it makes me feel GOOD. That’s the purpose of clothing, right?
I’ve styled this floral print look with a few great accessories. First I went with my handmade, pink tassel earrings for a pop of color. Sidenote: I’m thinking I should show y’all how I made these, it’s super easy! I didn’t shy away with color in this outfit, as I brought in another pop of color with a teal, vintage-style clutch. I kept things light with the shoes, and chose a flat embellished sandal. This ensemble is fun from head-to-toe.
If you’re like me and struggle with finding the appropriate style dress for your shape, fear not, there are so many solutions. The first being to embrace the skin your in and feel good wearing it. Whether you’re a size 0 or 16 we can all relate and we are all beautiful!
