When you think of the timeless look – one that never goes out of style – you have to think of Audrey Hepburn, the actress, humanitarian and, yes, International Best Dressed List Hall of Famer. No one illustrates the timeless look more than she did – and continues to do long after her death.
Interestingly, Hepburn was said to have enjoyed fashion but didn’t place too much emphasis on it, preferring to wear things that were casual and comfortable. In my opinion, it didn’t matter what she wore, she wore things that look good on her and she wore them with grace and elegance. And that, to me, is what it’s all about.
The timeless look starts with simplicity – clean lines, quality fabrics and separate pieces combined for a cohesive look. Contrary to what most people believe, timeless fashion does not have to cost a lot of money; in other words, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks.
The “little black dress” that Hepburn made famous in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is a great example of a classic piece of clothing that never goes out of style. And while you could break the bank on a little black dress, why would you when you can find one like I did several years ago at Forever 21, for less than $40? I still wear it when the occasion calls.
In this post, I’m wearing some other timeless pieces. I believe every woman should own a pencil skirt. Whether it is fabricated with lace like mine or a solid color, you can’t go wrong with the timeless shape that a pencil skirt gives a woman’s body. I am also wearing classic black pumps. Mine are Nine West, under $100, and I can wear them with ease. Black pumps seem to have the qualities that never fade.
This “Timeless Effect” post is only the start. Stay tuned to Lex What Wear for many more detailed posts on the ageless pieces that a woman must have in her wardrobe. Timeless Pieces – Pant Suit Separates, Blazer, Pencil Skirt, Black and Nude Pumps, Little Black Dress, etc. If you have some must-have, always-in-style items in your closet, let me know what they are. I’ll put a list together for everyone to see.
Although this blog is devoted to fashion and finding ways to look and feel beautiful, I’m a firm believer in beauty being only skin-deep. This is one of my favorite quotes: “The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows and the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.” – Audrey Hepburn
