6 70’s Inspired Looks

Finally! I am so glad to be talking about 70’s style and putting my own spin on flares, floral prints and boho accessories. I love everything about the fashion during this time. There is something so magical about the care-free spirit of  the 1970’s.

This past fall I fully embraced bell sleeves and flared denim. I also loved all of the suede that came to play, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a couple of pieces for seasons ahead. For spring I really enjoy floral prints of all kinds. Thankfully the flower power mantra has stuck around for several decades, so gals like me can embrace the trend. I also am a huge fan of rock-n-roll inspired graphic tees, round sunglasses and cut-off denim.

Today I’ve gone with a look that’s easily achievable. It’s not totally out there and it’s super affordable. You can introduce trends from this time slowly if you are hesitant to try new (or should I say old) trends. I picked a very light flared jean, as you can see it’s not too flared, while I styled a floral and fringe kimono with an flowy, blush blouse. This outfit embraces 70’s trends without screaming it’s the 70’s.

You can totally do this too, and with any time period that you feel speaks to your style and personality. Find separates that fit you, and fit your existing wardrobe. If you buy a “trendy” piece, you want to get some wear and tear out of it. Longevity is key with any purchase. If you can visualize your separates with several items you already own, take the plunge and purchase!

My last bit of advice: trends of the past are trends of the future. Get ready to embrace styles that your momma once wore, because what goes around comes back around in fashion!

XO, Alex

WORK ATTIRE + BETABRAND

Like myself, Betabrand has a passion for creating unique looks that allow you to be stylish and comfortable, ultimately making life way more easy on all of us 9-5’ers. If you’re in New York, I feel your pain. You probably haven’t seen a 5 pm since you moved there. Which means now more than ever, comfortable and professional work attire is a MUST.

I remember I wore down the soles of 9 or 10 pairs of flats and flat boots working various jobs in New York. It makes total sense that sneakers are replacing heels in the boardroom and people are swapping out their traditional dress pants with designer leggings. Speaking of that, Betabrand offers dress pants that have a yoga-like feel, but are acceptable in the office!

The need for comfortable professional dress is everywhere. I even see it here in Nashville at my new job. So I thought I would share a few cute looks that have me feeling comfortable yet professional enough to survive a full work day. I posted these looks via @LexWhatWear on Instagram, and plan to talk more on this subject in a future post. Be sure to check out Betabrand and this workplace movement happening across the country!
